Resistance

The National Memo
--- Sponsored Email ---
Dear Friend:
In yet another GOP attack on civil rights, Republican governors and legislatures are promoting bills that suppress the right to vote. Your voice must be heard to repel this unfair and unjust legislation. We urge you to consider this vital message from the Democratic Governors Association about protecting the democratic liberties of all Americans.

Sincerely,
Harold Itzkowitz
Associate Publisher on behalf of The National Memo Team

Dear Friend,

Republican-backed voter suppression bills are sweeping across the country, and the results aren't pretty.

We've already seen these new laws deny basic voting rights to an 86 year-old Ohio war veteran, a class of Florida high school students, and a former Tennessee Congressman -- who was turned away at the polls on Super Tuesday.

Forecasts predict that voter suppression laws could deny five million traditionally Democratic voters the right to vote -- allowing Republicans to steal elections up and down the ballot.

The Republican governor of Pennsylvania just signed new voting restrictions into law, and the governor of Virginia--another battleground state--is about to do the same.

It's a blatant assault on our democracy, but Republicans know that preventing Democrats from voting is a sure-fire ticket to defeating President Obama and other Democratic candidates this November. We must fight back against voter suppression now, before it's too late.

Add your name to the chorus of people who are calling on Republicans to immediately cease-and-desist their attacks on voting rights.

It's an uphill battle with Republicans holding 29 governorships and a majority of state legislatures, but we've already seen some victories for our side.

Earlier this month, a Wisconsin judge blocked Governor Scott Walker's voter suppression law, a nod to the plaintiff's claim that the law does "irreparable harm." Thousands of civil rights leaders retraced the march from Selma to Montgomery, protesting what NAACP President Ben Jealous calls "the greatest attack on voting rights since segregation." And a former U.S. Marine in Tennessee refused to present his photo ID before voting in protest of his state's restrictions.

These are powerful symbols of resistance but we cannot stop now, while the Republicans are threatening to sign more of these laws in key swing states.

Join the movement to stop the Republican assault on voting rights by adding your name right now.

We will win this fight -- with your help.

Sincerely,
