Provide academic and moral support, encouragement and guidance. Evenings hours available. The BGCC/BBBS Mentoring Program involves eleven Club sites and more than 200 mentors and youth. Mentor matches meet once a week at a Club engaged in a variety of activities: Talking Playing games and sports Doing homework Creating art projects Sharing general life experiences Getting involved in team-building activities Field trips with other mentor/mentee pairs. Matches receive the support of both the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Coordinator, who facilitates each mentoring session, and the Boys & Girls Clubs staff, who interact with the children and their families on a regular basis. Along with individual volunteers, corporations, universities, and other organizations partner with BBBS to provide mentors to CPS students at schools in their neighborhoods and communities. Activities can range from homework help and reading to playing games, talking and listening. The U.S. Embassy in Yemen announced on its website that it was closed Sunday "in response to ongoing threats by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula ... to attack American interests in Yemen." President Barack Obama had said in his weekly address on Saturday that the plot for the attempted Christmas Day sky bombing unfolded in Yemen, where extremists trained the suspect, "equipped him with those explosives and directed him to attack that plane headed for America." Yemen adjoins Saudi Arabia and is separated from Somalia by the Gulf of Aden.


The British government joined the United States in closing its embassy in Yemen on Sunday, AP reported. Shutting an embassy is a rare and dire step, dramatizing the Arab nation's emergence as one of the world's premier terrorist havens.
