Senate Democrats have reached a "broad agreement" on a health reform bill, Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday night -- a plan that negotiators have said would create a new national health-care plan with private insurers, and a chance for older Americans to “buy in” to Medicare.

David Miller Earns IFT Endorsement in State Comptroller's Race

Citing his many years of leadership on education funding reform, the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) today endorsed State Rep. David Miller (D-29) for Illinois Comptroller.  IFT represents over 103,000 teachers and staff statewide, and its endorsement is a critical win in the state's short primary season.

"David Miller has been a vocal champion for public education since his very first days as a State Representative," said IFT President Ed Geppert, Jr.  "He not only gives voice to the concerns of Illinois' teachers and schoolchildren, but he's developed and advocated thoughtful, common-sense solutions to the issues we face."

Miller is the chief sponsor of legislation in the State House to address the structural funding inequities in Illinois' education system.

"I am honored to receive the support of the IFT," said Miller.  "As Comptroller, I will continue working with the IFT to ensure that all of our children, regardless where they live, have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed."

The IFT endorsement is Miller's second labor endorsement in as many weeks; last week the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 241, recognized him for his outstanding leadership on issues facing Illinois' working families.

The IFT represents 103,000 men and women who are teachers and support staff in public school districts across the state, faculty and staff at Illinois' community colleges and universities, public employees under every constitutional office, and retirees.
