Even though the focus of MED Week 2010, scheduled for August 23 - 27, 2010 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, is global in nature, there are still plenty of opportunities to network and partner with Native American businesses. The Conference is sponsored by the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), a vital agency within the Department of Commerce and an important driver for opportunities for minority businesses. MBDA worked extensively to incorporate Native Americans in this year's MED Week Program and there are several events that will take place supporting this effort. Chief among these efforts is the session entitled "The Power of Business in Indian Country" (Thursday, August 26th, 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM). This session will focus on the strategies and advantages of doing business with Tribal nations and Tribal Business Entities. Through joint ventures, investments, mergers and acquisitions there are tremendous opportunities to partner with Native businesses. The panelists will discuss public-based incentives ranging from 8(a) contracting to market-based incentives, tax advantages, favorable business laws, purchasing power, and a brief review of relevant case studies. Real life examples will be provided on how to develop new and robust business relationships in Indian Country. Opportunities for networking continue at Thursday night's social event - Weaving Relationships in Indian Country at the Hard Rock Café – from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The Hard Rock Café is the renowned and tribally owned international business franchise. Wind down and enjoy this Business to Business networking mixer with your colleagues, other MBEs, Corporations, Tribes, and the Native American Business community.
