BACKGROUND

The Full House Committee on Appropriations marked up its version of the FY 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Bill on Friday, July 17, 2009. Although a handful of programs that our field advocates for were recommended for small increases, the Committee voted to eliminate the State Grants portion of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities program and to cut the funding for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention by nearly $1 million.

NEXT STEPS/URGENT ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN

The Senate is scheduled to mark up its version of the Labor, HHS and Education Appropriations Bill tomorrow. CADCA will send you specific legislative alerts on the programs listed in the chart below with sample letters and detailed instructions as the appropriations process moves forward It is imperative that when you receive these alerts, you act as soon as possible so that we can have maximum influence on FY 2010 funding levels for the programs that support our field. CADCA will not ask you to respond to the same alert twice, so please take a moment to respond each and every time you receive an alert.
