Dear Fred,

As IADDA has been saying for the past few weeks, the 'Doomsday' budget scenario has become reality and was revealed today by Governor Quinn.  The full details are not yet available, but we already know that this budget ELIMINATES ADDICTION PREVENTION & TREATMENT SERVICES.  This means that all state funds for Addiction Prevention and Treatment services will be cut if this budget passes.  Because of our federal Maintenance of Effort requirement, this would put all of our federal dollars in serious jeopardy, potentially causing the collapse of the entire addiction healthcare system!

WE CANNOT AFFORD TO SIT ON THE SIDELINES AND WATCH THIS BUDGET PLAY OUT!  EVERY IADDA MEMBER, EVERY CLIENT, EVERY YOUTH, EVERY FAMILY MEMBER MUST CALL, WRITE AND VISIT YOUR LEGISLATORS NOW AND EVERY DAY THROUGH THE END OF SESSION!

The message we must send is one of outrage; we will NOT accept a dismantling of the addiction healthcare system!   FULL FUNDING OF ADDICTION PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY SERVICES MUST BE A PRIORITY! We need every legislator to not only make it their priority, but to communicate that priority to their caucus and their leadership.

Tell your legislators that IADDA supports an increase in the income tax and the alcohol tax to raise additional revenue to allow the state to operate and fulfill the needs of its citizens, including those in need of life-saving addiction healthcare services.  IADDA further recommends that a portion of any increased revenue be allocated to support a reasonable expansion of addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services to address unmet need, including, but not limited to, waiting lists for treatment services.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SIGNED ON TO COME TO SPRINGFIELD, PLEASE MAKE THAT COMMITMENT TODAY! Use the form in Quick Links to tell IADDA when you will be here.  Even if you have spoken to your legislators repeatedly, they need to see you in Springfield, hear from you on the phone, read your emails and see your faxes.  EVERY EFFORT MUST BE MADE TO STOP THE DOOMSDAY BUDGET FROM BECOMING A REALITY!!!!  PLEASE ACTIVATE YOUR NETWORKS TODAY!!!
Sincerely,
