Still other parents' unions are less concerned with teacher and labor-management issues than with advancing their own tightly focused-or very broad-agendas. Those agendas include improving school gifted-and-talented programs, for instance, and closing achievement gaps between minority and white students.   Read More... New Data: How The Richest Got Even Richer

Friday, March 16, 2012 THE BIG STORY, BY DAVID CAY JOHNSTON New Data Reveal How The Richest Got Even Richer Starting in 1933, government policy aimed to improve the lot of the vast majority through such policies as massive government-financed jobs and construction programs. But since 1980 policy has focused on helping the already rich get richer still, with such policies as lower taxes and fewer audits. And new evidence of the impact keeps on piling up. You're promised compensation when you're doing well, and that's very attractive to young people. All these firms can attract the best of American graduates, whether they're philosophy majors or financial engineers, it didn't make any difference." Review of: Williams, God's Own Party:

What this reviewer fails to discover is the Bible is the Book for revelation and spirituality. Many of these "Southern Evangelicals" are bigots and racists. What Bible are they reading? What Jesus are they following? The Southern Evangelicals' main objective is to defeat the "Black" President. The Southern Evangelical cannot call themselves Christians. They need to find a name suitable for their character and behavior. I have some names. What about you?

Taliban Suspends Peace Talks With U.S.

Thursday, March 15, 2012 THE BIG STORY, BY E.J. DIONNE Romney Meets 'Peasants With Pitchforks' When Pat Buchanan ran for president in the 1990s, the conservative commentator lovingly referred to his partisans as "peasants with pitchforks." The pitchfork brigade now enjoys more power in Republican politics than even Buchanan thought possible. Mitt Romney is still the Republican front-runner by virtue of the delegates he relentlessly piles up. But Romney keeps failing to bring this slugfest to a close. No matter how much he panders and grovels to the party's right, its supporters will never see him as one of their own. Makes you wonder, doesn't it, what Gingrich was willing to say to the majority of Alabamians who didn't support him. When I heard about Gingrich's Wal-Mart crack, my head hurt, and my heart ached. He tends to have that effect on me in general, but this time my grievances were more specific.
