Tuesday's Daily Brief: Shadow Conventions 2012 Discuss What Candidates Don't

Tuesday, August 28, 2012
Arianna Huffington: HuffPost Live is bringing you Shadow Conventions 2012 with the goal of sparking a national conversation on three issues that neither party is seriously addressing: the corrupting influence of money on our politics, the persistence of poverty in America, and the disastrous war on drugs. Our new streaming network will devote a day during each of the national conventions to focusing on one of those three issues. Today, HuffPost Live's team of host/producers will be joined by a broad range of politicians, thought leaders, activists, and celebrities for in-depth interviews and panel discussions on various aspects of the drug war. And we want you to be a central part of these discussions. That's what HuffPost Live is all about -- sparking real conversations about issues that impact our lives. The Shadow Conventions are your conventions. Join us and be part of a convention that's unscripted, surprising, and a lot more interesting than the over-produced political commercials in Tampa and Charlotte.

I've just about had it

From: Donna Brazile <democraticparty@democrats.org>

Subject: I've just about had it

The Democratic Party
Dr. Fred --

When it comes to women's rights, I have just about had it with Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the rest of the Republican Party.

Let's get this straight: Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's running mate, was a co-sponsor of a bill that would narrow the definition of rape. After Republican leadership tried, and failed, to force Rep. Todd Akin out of his Senate race, in part for his extreme views on abortion in cases of rape, the Republican Party is ratifying an official platform that follows Akin's policy lead and supports a constitutional ban on abortions -- even in cases of incest and rape.

They really do want to roll back women's rights -- and it's up to us to stop them.

Tomorrow's the first full day of the Republican convention. Before their first speaker gets up on that stage to peddle these regressive policies, donate $13 or whatever you can today to help Democrats fight back.

If Republicans win in November, you better believe that they're going to try to steamroll their agenda through Congress -- and we have to take them at their word that they won't rest until they've outlawed a woman's right to make her own health care decisions.

There is only one way we can stop them: by making sure Democrats have the resources they need to fight back and win on Election Day.

We have a critical fundraising deadline coming up on Friday -- and the funds we raise before it will determine whether we can help Democrats across the country beat Republicans and their backwards, antiquated views on women's rights.

Donate $13 or more today to help Democrats win:

Thanks,

Donna Brazile
