Michael Bennet in Colorado's U.S. Senate election, "is confirming just now tonight he was offered a position" if he would exit the race. The nation's economy added 431,000 jobs in the month of May, and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.7 percent, the government reported Friday. That's less job growth than many expected, and will not provide a boost to the Obama Administration. The government said that 411,000 of the jobs created in May were temporary positions with the once-a-decade US Census, and not the kind of employment that can drive a sustained economic recovery. That meant that the overall private sector employment growth for the month was anemic - up by just 41,000.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs confirmed in a statement that deputy chief of staff Jim Messina approached Colorado Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff about a possible administration job. Romanoff had applied to work at USAID during the transition, Gibbs said, and Messina "wanted to determine if it was possible to avoid a costly battle between two supporters. … As Mr. Romanoff has stated, there was no offer of a job."

Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff confirmed Wednesday that Jim Messina, President Barack Obama’s deputy chief of staff, suggested three administration jobs that would be available to him last September if he dropped his plans to run against U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who had the support of the White House. Romanoff said he informed the White House that he would stay in the race. The revelation comes days after the White House confirmed that Rep. Joe Sestak was approached about an unpaid position in the administration if he dropped his campaign against Sen. Arlen Specter.
